Professional Advice at Any Level
BY TAYLOR PHILLIPS
Last week, our team huddled for a three-day conference to realign our business goals and establish our position. We got to hear from our team leaders, peers and guest speakers on best practices for executing a strategic plan, being a leader, building our networks, handling clients, public speaking, writing, communicating and more! Here are some of the takeaways from our Cunningham Collective Conference:
Being a strong leader:
As a strong leader, you should know your company’s purpose and be able to explain who you are, why you matter, and what your position is.
Communication is a strategic weapon.
Working with clients:
When working with clients, it’s important to understand the dynamics of the company, their specific situation, and the problem they are trying to solve for their customers.
Communication is about more than just talking. It’s recognizing your client’s wants and needs and translating those into impactful messaging.
Client success means showing passion for the problem and the solution, maintaining optimism, leading with perseverance and creativity.
Honing your writing skills:
Strong writing is a crucial skill in any workplace.
Before you start writing, ask yourself what you want the reader to think, feel and believe.
Less is more! Write clearly, keep it brief, avoid jargon, and never lose sight of your message.
Succeeding as a young professional:
When presenting or public speaking, find confidence in knowing that your audience wants you to succeed.
Manage up! Make sure you’re getting the support you need from your manager.
Make connections and build your network wherever you can.
We hope you find this helpful, and now it’s your turn. What’s the most valuable piece of business advice you’ve ever gotten?
